TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE -- not durable or dependable, frustrating customer service September 2, 2010 Daniela Bleichmar 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have never written an Amazon review before but since I have benefited from the experiences that other parents share through their product reviews and we've had such a terribly disappointing experience with this stroller, I am taking the time to write this review hoping that it will be helpful to other parents.
We bought a Bugaboo Bee in October 2009, in preparation for our first baby being born. We did our research and decided this was the right stroller for us. We paid $580, which seemed quite steep, but we thought that for something that one uses every single day, it was worth it. Bugaboo has a great reputation for design and quality, and we did like the design a lot. But the quality turned out to be substandard.
After only eight months of regular use, the plastic part that connects the seat to the frame snapped and broke, making the stroller completely unusable. We have not subjected the stroller to anything beyond regular use, one day it just completely broke. We live in South California, so there's a lot of driving around and we don't even use the stroller as much as someone in a more urban setting would. I am outraged that a stroller that cost $580 (it's even more now) broke after only eight months of use, that is just unacceptably bad quality for a product that parents depend on a daily basis for transporting their child.
The part where this story gets really frustrating has do to with the company's response. I phoned Bugaboo and they said that since there is a two-year warranty, they would replace the broken part free of cost. This sounded fair and like an appropriate response. They asked me to send them various kinds of information as well as photographs of the problem, and then sent me an email saying that they would be sending us a replacement seat free of cost... IN TWO TO THREE WEEKS. Our daughter is ten-months old, which makes her too heavy to carry around in a carrier for very long, but too young to walk. We depend on our stroller to take her out of the house on a daily basis. We don't own a second stroller. So for us being without a stroller for two to three weeks is simply not possible. I emailed and called back to explain this, and they replied that the part is back-ordered from Europe so there is nothing they can do. I asked to speak to a customer service supervisor, and explained that what this delay would imply for our family would be going out to buy a new stroller, which we didn't need and we'd only be doing because they couldn't respond fast enough. I asked her try to come up with a better solution since we depend on their product for our baby's transportation. The customer care supervisor was very friendly and sympathetic-sounding, and said she'd try to find a solution for me by the end of the day, she'd call her manager in California to see if they could FedEx me a seat that same day, and she promised to call me back. By the end of the day she hadn't so I phoned her, and she said that her manager was away on vacation so there was nothing she could do, but that she'd come up with a solution and she'd call me back the next day, which was a Friday. She never did. Four working days later (not including a stroller-less weekend for our baby) she emailed to say that she had good news: her manager should be back from vacation in a week, and at that point he could FedEx us a replacement seat... I fail to see how this is good news, since at that point it'll be three weeks since I first phoned them with a broken stroller!
I am simply dismayed at the poor design and bad quality of a stroller that breaks in such a way as to make it completely inoperable after only eight months of use, and at a baby company that is so out of touch with the needs of parents that they think that taking two to three weeks to replace the stroller is acceptable. For a different kind of product I can imagine waiting this time, but not for a stroller.
As a new mom I have benefited from the combined experience offered by parents' product reviews, and have found that the most useful reviews are not those written by parents who rave about a product they just got in the mail or have owned for a couple of weeks but those that come from parents who say they have been using a certain product for a long time (perhaps even with several children) and have tried the competitors and feel this is the best choice. Some things only become clear with time. Based on our experience I do not recommend this stroller at all.
bugaboo bee, don't buy one September 1, 2010 dave 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We were fairly happy with the unit, however it appears the plastic it's made from is not infallible. The seat section broke around the hinge.(The parasol attachment plastic around the hinge also snapped but I did not claim for that as I simply taped it up and so it still works) and I claimed under warranty which they duly agreed was within the terms.
However I received a few mails regarding the sending of a replacement part, at no point did they say how long it would be. It's been a week since they confirmed they would send a new part and their customer service (US) estimates it at a further 2-3 weeks! This means at least a month without a stroller. The stroller is currently unusable I can only try to fix the stroller to a point where it is at least useable for my daughter to get into. However I don't think I can get it to a point where it will fold up to go into the car, so fewer trips for my daughter for at least a month it seems unless I buy a second stroller for the interim.
Having spent so much money on a stroller in the first place I would hope for better customer service. Or at least a faster response time. The stroller is manufactured in Taiwan. I myself have ordered from manufacturers there and received the items in around a week. The delay I can see can be purely identified as little regard for customer satisfaction.
That lack of satisfaction has brought me to a point where I write this negative review.
~EDIT~ I changed my review from 2 to 1 stars and the title on the basis of below
One good thing though, having left this review I have found out my bugaboo was indeed recalled. A point bugaboo themselves failed to point out even though I had sent them pictures showing the item number and an email stating it(that they requested) which would have let them know the fact. The recall was for brakes that don't work. I had established this already. I also read that the raincovers tear; mine also did this within a mater of weeks. All in all I am more dissatisfied with them as a company than before. (I wonder how serious a recall would cause them to proactively inform customers of a potential hazard?)

Do NOT BUY THE BUGABOO BEE July 6, 2010 Megan A Farrell 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Do not buy a Bugaboo Bee! Buy any other product, but not the Bee!
In October of 2007, we pre-ordered the Bugaboo Bee. Our daughter was born in November of 2007. She was not a big baby, in fact, she was on the small side. Immediately, we had problems with the brake, it worked only occasionally. The rain cover ripped within a couple months. Less than six months after our daughter first used the Bee, the frame broke.
For three weeks, we called Bugaboo and were not able to get in touch with anyone. I left messages on any extension I could seeking out help. Finally, we got someone on the phone. We explained our frame broke and the brake didn't work. The service agent was rude, and finally agreed to send us a new frame (it was within warranty), if we emailed them pictures. We did.
A few weeks later, we received a new frame. The brake still didn't work unless I kicked it. Another nine months later, we received a replacement part for the brake (apparently enough people complained about the brake), but it still didn't work until we oiled it up. Two more rain covers later, both ripped, we gave on the rain covers.
Six months ago, the first wheel ripped apart. We bought a new one from [...]. Two and a half months ago the second wheel ripped. And the sunshade snapped. We ordered another wheel from [...]. Two months later, it has still not arrived because it's been out of stock. The manager at[...] told me she would send me a used wheel to get by on. That was two weeks ago and it hasn't arrived. We just received a email telling us the new wheel we ordered is still out of stock... indefinitely. So now, we can't use the $500 stroller that never worked well anyway.
If you must buy Bugaboo, at least don't buy the Bee.
love my bugaboo June 22, 2010 A. Gift For You 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is the best stroller hands down. I have owned 3 stroller to date and the Bee is my Favorite!!! I first bought a graco travel system...garbage is my opinion. Then I bought a Phil and Teds Dash...pricy and not well made...finally I got a bugaboo bee. I live in Tokyo and travel alot so I needed a good small stroller. This stroller has it all. You can attatch an infant seat with adapter, it lies completely flat, it faces both direction and the basket is easy to access. It is easy to fold and is very sturdy. I can hang a heavy diaper bag from the handle and it does not tip over. the sun canopy is very large and cover the baby well. The accessories are amazing. the footmuff is great in cold weather and so cozy. The breazy canopy is nice for hot weather, the bug net/uv protector fully encloses to protect your babe from bugs and sun. the iphone adapter is worth it's weight in gold. Oh did I mention how stylish the Bee is. Many of my friends have the bugaboo camelian wich is a great stroller if you do not need to fold it as it is a lengthy process or get it onto a subway or bus. The bee is easy to fold and put in the trunk of the car. The bee also is great in cities like Tokyo or New York because it is very narrow and can easily fit onto public transportaionand into small restaurants, and small shopping areas.
