Product Description Chicco KeyFit Infant Car Seat and Base It's very rare to find an infant car seat and base which work together so greatly to make the entire installation process easier. The KeyFit Car Seat and Base from Chicco works so well together that it is very different than other car seats. Other car seats don't install half as easily as the Chicco. The KeyFit is a baby car seat which is also affordably priced to not bust wallets. The KeyFit can fit a range of child form 4-30 lbs, which is different t

Versatile, High Quality Seat February 21, 2010 C. Hall (Seattle, WA) My husband and I love this car seat. One of the reasons we chose it is the fact that it does not require the base for installation. That way, we keep the base in my car, and my husband can use the seat in his car without the hassle of moving the base. It also makes traveling in a friend's car with the baby a much more spontaneous thing.
Our son is a long and skinny baby, and fits in the seat very well.
My only two gripe points are
a: As other posters have noted, it does make him sweaty.
b: it's very annoying that you have to push both orange releases at the same time to move the carrying handle. When the seat is in position in the middle of the back seat it takes some tricky contortions to get to the far side release button.
Aside from these two small issues I feel like the quality of materials and construction is very high and would not hesitate to purchase the seat again.
On a side note: We also use a BOB revolution stroller, and though not listed as a 'compatible' car seat with the infant car seat adapter, it fits just fine with the removal of a spanner bar (this is the same bar that has to be removed to turn the seat adapter into the snack tray feature, so it's designed to be removed anyway.) There is a more in depth tutorial on how to remove this bar in one of the BOB Revolution stroller reviews. It fits perfectly and feels plenty secure to me - I just suspect that Chicco didn't want to pay the licensing fee to BOB to be a 'compatible carrier' - but of course, you are your own parent and use your best judgment as to this modification's safety.
Love it!!! February 19, 2010 J. Fitzgerald (Oklahoma City, OK) I can not say enough wonderful things about the Chicco Keyfit 30. This is my 3rd baby and my 1st Chicco. I wish I would have had one with my other 2 babies. The extra cushion insert (which is also removable) provides the comfort and extra protection for newborns. The way it fits in the base is so seamless and easy,I never knew how easy it could truly be. My 1st infant car seat would always get stuck and I would have to force it in and jerk it out. It is well worth the money and Amazon makes it so affordable. Much more savings than the store. Another feature I like is that it fits perfectly in the Jeep Liberty Unlimited single jogging stroller perfectly. We will get alot of use out this car seat and I am so glad I found it on Amazon. I couldn't find the color I wanted at the store and Amazon had many to choose from!
Note: I ordered it on Sunday and received it on Tuesday. I was extremely pleased and impressed with the swiftness in which I received it.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this carseat!!!!!! February 19, 2010 L. Mastrigt (Gainesville, VA) BEST carseat out there! The safety ratings are great. My son loves this carseat, falls asleep in it easily and looks very comfy. The first few weeks we had him home he would not sleep unless we held him, or snuggled into this seat. It is super easy to install, get him in and out and adjust the harnass. I also love the color options. I am recommending this seat to everyone!!!!
great product for your little one February 7, 2010 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was at baby's r us for two hours, trying to figure out which car seat was the safest. As a first time mother, the options were overwhelming. We knew someone who was in a car accident with her baby, so we knew that safety was the most important issue for the baby. Consumer reports gave this car seat the highest rating, so I knew this was it. It fit her very well throughout the 6 months, but now she's about to out grow out of this. The car seat seems very well made. The material isn't as soft compared to other car seats, but it's easy to clean. My kid vomited in the car seat three or four times already, but it still feels clean and the clean up was easy.
I didn't buy the set. I got a MacLaren traveling thing that looks like an ugly grocery cart, but it makes the whole thing light and simple. The Chicco traveling set felt big and bulky. Honestly, after giving birth, I really didn't want to lift anything heavy.
Best Infant Seat Out There January 20, 2010 Alison Kern (Nebraska, USA) We have used this infant seat with our 3-month-old son since the day we brought him home from the hospital, and we couldn't be happier. In fact, the hospital staff person who inspects carseats for all new parents said this is one of the best and safest models she's seen. It is easy to install and use, and the super simple adjustable straps are a lifesaver for getting the baby in and out with ease. The newborn insert helped him be more comfortable the first several weeks. The fabric is easy to clean and the simple colors (we have the Adventure green color) work well for either boys or girls, so we could reuse the seat if our next child is a girl.
The only real drawback we've found is the weight of the seat itself, which gets pretty hefty once you add the baby. If you have trouble lifting and plan to carry the baby around in the seat a lot, this would be a concern. But we mostly just take him from the house to the car and the car to wherever we're going in it, so it's not a big deal.
Also, be aware that the seat does not have the notch on the underside that Graco and some others do to allow it to sit up on the child-seat area of a shopping cart. We set him down in the basket of the cart, which takes up a lot of the space but is also safer. The instructions advise against putting the carseat up on the cart like that anyway.
I doubt I'll be lugging him around in the seat when he's 30 pounds, but it's nice to be able to continue to use it as a rear-facing carseat for a longer time than the standard seats with 22 pound limits. Considering the fact that our son is 16 pounds at 3 months, getting the seat with the higher weight limit was a good move for us.
Overall, we highly recommend this carseat. We did a lot of research and Chicco seats come out on top for safety and ease of use in many studies and reviews. It's worth the extra money to have the best product for something you use every day, especially when it could save your baby's life in case of a car accident.
